Java is the technology that Sun Microsystems offers us to run any application without worrying about the platform, thanks to the use of its virtual machine that works in real time.

  To do so, it offers developers the Development Kits, with all the development APIs, and JRE (Java Runtime Environment) to the users, that is the real time running environment for Java.

  What's more, Sun offers three editions that include both the virtual machine and well as the development APIs:
- Java ME (Micro Edition), that includes the development APIs for mobile terminals.
- Java EE (Enterprise Edition), focused at the development of business applications and with support for multiple platforms and operating systems.
- Java SE (Standard Edition), dedicated to the creation of web applications.

  The last version of Java SE, known as Java 2 up untill version 5, is optimized to create web applications and services, and includes support for dynamics languages, diagnostics and desktop applications.

  In the new version of Java SE, Sun Microssytems offers improved compatibility with scripting languages, like Netscape’s Rhino, Jelly, Python, Ruby, Scheme,... and improves the libraries and the compiler.

  Thus, the latest version is prepared to support Windows 7 and, what's more, includes support for Internet Explorer 8, Windows Server 2008 SP2 and Windows Vista SP2.
